Working from home has its many benefits – you don’t have to spend hours on a daily commute, you can take longer lunch breaks and basically work in your pajamas. However, it’s not all fun and games if you’re telecommuting. One thing that is especially challenging in this situation is showing your boss that you really work hard and that you deserve a promotion.
You are out of his or her sight and you need to work extra hard to prove you’re a valuable part of the team even if you’re not physically present. But there are some things you can do to enhance your chances of getting a promotion if your home is your office.
1. Track your accomplishments
When you’re far away from your boss and your colleagues, it’s easy to get lost in a routine and forget you’re actually making progress and accomplishing goals on a daily basis. This is why you should implement a new habit – take some time every week to note down what you accomplished that week, something you’re proud of and something you’re looking forward to in the weeks to come.
This will come in handy when you’re updating your resume, but it will also make you feel good about yourself and remind you that your work matters. And every so often, you can even send this weekly report to your boss, especially if you’ve done something that had great results for the company or made you feel particularly proud.
