17 Things Foreigners Find Strange About the U.S

Every country and culture is different from another and what locals consider normal and ordinary is sometimes unorthodox and strange to people who are visiting. The U.S. has a number of things that make it strange in the eyes of foreigners, but for U.S. citizens those are just some regular daily habits, items, and events.

Read on to find out what are the 17 most surprising things for foreigners when they come to the U.S.

1. Enormous Food Portions

Compared to most parts of the world, food portions in America are huge. This may be because most people in America think bigger is better and the food service tries to satisfy the wishes of their customers. Of course, as they buy more food, they eat more whether they are that hungry or not.

Eating so much food makes our stomach stretch and leads to an increased appetite, and a never-ending cycle of eating giant portions. All of this resulted in almost 70% of the American population suffering from obesity. There are more obese people in the U.S. than anywhere else in the world. This brings large profits to restaurants, as it doesn’t cost them much more to serve a double portion, but usually they do charge around 3 extra dollars for the larger portions.

In the last two decades, bagels went from delivering around 200 calories to 500 calories. Everything is served in much larger quantities than foreigners are used to, and seeing how Americans easily eat huge burgers is simply strange.
