Fall Fashion: What to Wear this Autumn

Fall is in full swing! And for the fashion-conscious, that means another reason to change the wardrobe. With summer over and the colder months starting to show, it’s time to toss the shorts and swimsuits back into the drawers and step out in this season’s best trends.

All the popular name brands have showcased their best fall/winter looks. Christian Dior and Bottega Veneta were all sharp suits and dresses. Green seems to be making a big splash, from the citrusy limes to emeralds. There’s also a focus on pinks, sporty styles and wide crops.

Here’s what you should be wearing this autumn to stay in style.

Jewel Tones

As previously mentioned, shades of green is in this fall. So trade your summer garden green for the rich, jeweled shade of emerald.

The predictable navy, khaki or black is also out this time in favor of something bolder. For a grown up look, slacks in jewel tones like red, teal and fuchsia can be paired with neutral tops.

Linear

Geometric lines and prints that interlock or zigzag through the torso make for a nice mixed and matched look. Just be careful and don’t overdo it. The best way to rock the look is to just leave it to the pros. Find one item that’s already pre-coordinated and keep the rest of your ensemble from looking too busy by sticking to solids.

Nature-inspired

Pretty florals, landscape photo-prints and even butterfly motifs are making a comeback. Tracy Reese, Dolce & Gabbana and Valentino all paraded collections rich in prints inspired by nature. Even plumage in moderation is acceptable.

The trick is to do it in moderation. You certainly don’t want to go overboard and cover yourself in say, head to toe feathers. You’re not Big Bird. Keep it stylish by using the feathers as accent. Flowers can be used as accessories to add some flair to your LBD (little black dress).

Sneakers

If those killer heels are killing your feet, this may just be the trend you have been waiting for. This autumn, footwear is all about comfort. So don’t hold back. Make a statement with your colorful sneakers. You can’t go wrong with this style choice when even fashion icon Chanel had their models traipsing the catwalk in sneakers.

Animal Prints

Animal prints have been around for ages. But leopard print? That’s so 2010. Ditch the big cat spots and turn your focus on a different wild animal. This year, it’s all about python prints. Colored snakeskin patterns stand out, but even the more neutral browns and grays can add texture to your look without overpowering it. Make the most of it by pairing with sandals or shorts.

The only rule to remember when it comes to animal print is this: do NOT mix prints. If you choose a snakeskin belt, never wear a zebra print top. You are not dressing up as a zoo.

Menswear-inspired

Suits never really go out of style. This fall, tailored separates and pleated trousers along with oversize jackets are in. For the best style inspiration, check out the latest from Giorgio Armani or Elizabeth and James.

Sporty

Joggers get new life this fall. If you don’t want to look like you’re on your way to the gym, polish the look with dressier tops and fancier footwear.

Fall is here and it’s time to make the most out of it by looking your best. Check out the above trends and work them into your daily outfits to stay fashionable.
